【タイトル】Book Talk, Identity, Culture and Memory in Japanese Foreign Policy

【講座内容】Japan during Abe Shinzo Administration went through a major transformation of its foreign policy. The passivity and low-profile diplomacy, which earlier scholars commonly noted, were overshadowed by Abe’s bold declaration of “proactive peace” as the guiding principle of Japan’s foreign policy conducts. With this transformation, academic debates ensued over Japan’s pacifist or anti-militarist norm, which dominated the constructivist IR literature for some time. As constructivism received broader acceptance beyond liberal-idealists, the book by Dr. Kolmas and Prof. Sato gathered a team of authors who shed lights on a diverse range of ideational factors in analyzing a corner of Japanese foreign policy they focus.
