Women’s Participation, Empowerment, and Community Development in Tourism Areas in the Philippines

Research Purpose and Contents:

This study investigates women’s participation and involvement in tourism activities in the Philippines. By looking at the case of the Philippines, the top Asian country in world gender equality rankings, this study examines how women can act as active agents facilitating community development in tourism destinations. By adhering to the theoretical lenses of empowerment, community development, participation, and tourism development, this study suggests that women's empowerment is critical in translating women's engagement in tourism to influence community development. The findings of this study contribute to the growing literature on gender and tourism in countries renowned for their contribution to closing the gender gap. In terms of policy implications, the study provides insights into the dynamics of women's involvement in tourism with the goal of understanding how participation can promote empowerment.

Drawing from system-level analysis and dynamic time series modeling, the study provides an encompassing perspective on supply chain intricacies. Research aims:

  • A. Comparative Study: Contrast pre and post-pandemic supply chains between the US and Japan, identifying structural challenges and strengths.
  • B. Stakeholder Dynamics: Engage with entities such as NYU Langone Health and Johnson & Johnson to derive insights into supply chain complexities from provider and supplier viewpoints.
  • C. Time Series Analysis: Apply state space modeling techniques from Masanao Aoki's work to gauge temporal dynamics, offering predictive capacities for future supply chain states.
  • D. Strategic Solutions: Integrate Bo Carlsson's concepts of technological systems with advanced data analytics to propose risk mitigation strategies for a robust healthcare supply chain, in a post-pandemic world and beyond.

Social and Solidarity Economy Practices in Pakistan: Leading Transformative Changes Required in the Post-COVID-19 Era.

Research Purpose and Contents:

The research aims to examine the social and solidarity economy practices in Pakistan as examples in Muslim society and see if and how they offer elements of an alternative economic approach suitable in the post-COVID-19 era. Using the analytical framework based on economic anthropologist Karl Polanyi’s three main arguments, the research analyzes the cases of Akhuwat, an Islamic microfinance institution in Pakistan, and HomeNet Pakistan, a membership-based network for women home-based workers. The research also aims to contribute to theory-building of the social and solidarity economy using learnings from the global South.

The focus of this study is to examine the effect of share market performance on economic growth. Study aims:

Waste Management in Fiji - Material Flow Analysis of Urban Households.

Research Purpose and Contents:

The purpose of this research is to identify waste material flows of urban households in Fiji. Understanding the quantity and type of waste materials produced at the household level is important in formulating the appropriate strategies to tackle waste management. This may be done through selective recycling of waste materials and incineration for electricity production, or repurposing of waste materials and landfill mining. The results of this research will be leveraged to devise the appropriate long terms strategies to sustainably tackle waste management in Fiji and set the foundations of a circular economy.

The Emerging of Social and Sharia Ethical Companies in Indonesia: Performance and Volatility Comparison between Socially Responsible and Sharia Compliance Investments and Conventional Portfolio.

Research Purpose and Contents:

The purpose of this research is to examine the Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) and Sharia Compliance Investment (SCI) comparing with the top 45 conventional market indexes in Indonesia (LQ45) by harnessing the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) and the Fama French (2015) Five Factors Model. The researcher hypothesizes that the SCI and SRI having a better performance than the LQ45, and they will become catalysts to the more ethical and sustainable transformation in Indonesia's business activities.
