Today's society seeks human resources not only with fundamental academic ability but also with communicative knowledge such as the skills needed to apply the knowledge that one has acquired to practical use.
APU aims to improve the effectiveness of extracurricular activities which can strengthen these skills such as circle activities and regional exchanges.
The SAS was set up in June 2008 in the Student Support Center as a way to get more students to participate in activities, provide opportunities and information and support their activities.

spaceAPU opened with considerable cooperation and support from Oita Prefecture and Beppu City and has therefore declared, since before it opened, to local citizens that it will make its contribution to the region. The SAS will carry out this role under the following basic concepts of human development, regional development and global networking.

spaceSupprts the promotion of the three student skills: Leadership skills (the ability to be proactive and show initiative), Management skills (working together for the group), and Communicative skills (the ability to make links with local communities).

spaceAims to contribute to the development and revitalization of Oita Prefecture and Beppu City.

spaceAims to create a human network with APU, Oita Prefecture and Beppu City as well as citizens at a national and international level.

spaceSAS is run by the APU Secretariat but there are currently 10 students providing their cooperation and working as student staff members.
spaceThe SAS is enriching student activities under the aforementioned 3 fundamental concepts via initiatives such as:
1) An activity lounge set up to offer information about local exchange and circle/club activities.
2) Working with SAS student staff, inquiring about what kinds of exchange activities involving APU students local citizens wish for and provide exchange programs that meet with local needs and with students' viewpoints.
3) Publishing the "APU Students' Activities - Our Good Practices" booklet and clearly introducing actual examples of student growth via student initiatives and experiences from an APU student perspective.

spaceThe principle role of SAS is in the hands of all students. How would you like to try an activity for yourself?
spaceThose who are interested are invited to come along to the Student Support Center on the 1st Floor of Building A.
