Members of the general public were present in the crowd of 600 that gathered at APU's Millennium Hall on Saturday April 22 for an interactive session with the film director IZUTSU Kazuyuki (director of "Pacchigi"). The event was organized by "Koko Korea," an APU student circle concerned with raising awareness about North and South Koreans residing in Japan.
Mr. Izutsu gave his reasons for making the film: "It's a film about coexistence [of peoples]. I wanted to show that it is not only Japanese people who influence and shape Japan, that there are many other people [in Japan]." His message to the audience was, "While affirming your own identity, get to know about other people and discover the essence and joy of being alive."
"Koko Korea" member IMAMURA Mio (APS 3, Japan) responded to the seminar with the following: "I was impressed by the director's knowledge of Koreans residing in Japan and their history. I thought that his unshaken determination to use film as a vehicle to appeal [their issues] to the world was courageous."
Peppered with Mr.Izutsu's wit and lively discussion instigated by "Koko Korea," the seminar captured and maintained the audience's interest right through to the very end.
