Isn't that worth something?
HAYASHI Akio(APS 2, Japan)
Ekimae Koto Hot Springs are located on the main road in front of Beppu Station. With the cooperation of local residents we opened up a Cafe at the end of April. We came up with the idea of opening the Cafe as a means of raising funds to carry out necessary repairs to the buildings of Koto Hot Springs.
The purpose of opening up a Cafe is to help restore Ekimae Koto Hot Springs in order for people to continue using it. This is not a
matter of unnecessarily protecting old buildings - it is important that we assess their value and make the necessary repairs while continuing to use them. I personally believe that there can be no doubt that Ekimae Koto Hot Springs are valuable asset to this street, and that is while we begun these support activities.
We have collected 50,000 yen from the sales which will be allocated for the Koto Hot Springs Fund. We have also received 30,000 yen in donations made to our fund-raiser box which is in front of the Cafe. In addition we have learnt that to carry out activities of this nature well-conceived plans and finding ways of producing maximum value from limited funds is a must. I know this seems easy to conceive, but it was not until we actually opened the Cafe that realised how difficult it was.
We are going to continue with this Cafe and hope that the amount of people who think Koto Hot Springs is a must for this location continues to increase.
