NAKAMURA Ryota
(APS 4, Japan)
Unofficial job offer from Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy
Industries Co., Ltd.

I think I impressed them the most with my guts during the interview. (laughter) As one of the first students at APU, I got together with some friends and created a Japanese drumming club. We played at school festivals and such, and the interviewers seemed taken with my determination (guts) to meet the various challenges of school life. In particular, I took some time off from University to travel to Australia, and organized my own performance of Japanese drumming there. I mentioned that episode, which ended as a great success with about 300 tourist spectators, at the interview.
I tried to be relaxed and natural at the interview, making sure I could express clearly what I wanted to say. Practicing likely questions and responses before the interview really helped me a lot.

  RATNAYAKE, Thilanka Gayathri
(APM 4 Sri Lanka)
Unofficial job offer from
ROHTO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.

In the group interview held by Rohto during the on-campus recruiting program, each of the participants was asked different questions based on their resumes. I thought that being asked questions that particularly focused on the contents of our resumes rather than just general questions, gave us international students the opportunity to sell ourselves effectively in Japanese. I had the impression that the friendliness and consideration shown to us during our interviews is part of Rohto's company culture. I feel that Rohto is the kind of company that will motivate me to work hard through learning from my mistakes, while also providing an atmosphere where I can openly ask other employees if there is something I do not understand.
I encourage international students to make every effort to find the right company for them, rather than just wanting to find a job at any company in Japan.

  MATSUDA Eri
(APS 4, Japan)
Unofficial job offer from
All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd.

I approached my job hunt with the dream of finding a job that, through my love of the sky and airplanes, would give me the opportunity to become a bridge between Japan and other countries. I paid attention to my posture, body language and word usage so that I would be able to act appropriately and naturally not only during an interview situation, but during my everyday life as well. The large number of debates held in my APU classes allowed me to strengthen my communication skills and ability to express my thoughts and ideas clearly. I believe that these factors, along with my strong desire to work at ANA, were the key points in securing this position.
The multicultural environment at APU has also equipped me with the flexibility and cooperativeness required in understanding and taking on board other peoples' ideas and perspectives, skills I am confident I will be able to utilize while working as a flight attendant at ANA.

ZHU Yi
(APM 4, China)
Unofficial job offer from
Mitsui Chemicals, Inc.

Initially, I was undecided as to whether I should go on to graduate school or launch a business, but I finally ended up seeking employment after participating in an interesting on-campus recruiting program led by Mitsui Chemicals.
I wanted to gain further practical experience in marketing, which I'd been studying at APU, and when I mentioned during the interview that I had researched Internet-based business they were extremely interested. We forgot about the usual interview-type questions and got into some serious business discussions.
On-campus recruiting not only gives students an opportunity to talk to companies directly, but also reduces the financial load considerably: it's a very effective system for the international student.
