APU is full of students who are all working to achieve various dreams and goals. For this reason, student activities span the spectrum from domestic and international volunteering, disaster relief, regional exchange, event planning, club activities and more.
Several of these activities and events are born directly from the fact that APU is a multicultural and multinational campus.
Meet HAYASHI Hidetora, the mastermind behind last November's Guinness Book of World Records attempt to see how many people of different nationalities could fit in one sauna. |

On Wednesday, November 5, 2008, APU students from 57 countries and regions made a Guinness Book of World Records attempt to see how many different nationalities of people they could squeeze into a sauna at one time. The mastermind of this attempt was HAYASHI Hidetora (APM4, Japan), one of the administrators of the BEPPoo!! portal site for local information.
When we asked HAYASHI why a group of website administrators decided to attempt a world record, he replied, "Even though the method is different from running a site, we still want to let the world know about all the great things in Beppu. When we thought of a project that would make the most of Beppu's 3 selling points---hot springs, internationalism and academics---we struck upon the idea of becoming number 1 with a Guinness Book world record attempt."
HAYASHI has been involved with BEPPoo!! since it launched. The world record was a fitting way to graduate and finish up at BEPPoo!!. We look forward to hearing good news from HAYASHI in the future. |
