On Sunday, November 12, the former President of the Philippines, Fidel V. Ramos (in office from 1992 to 1998), visited APU to hold academic discussions with some of APU's students. These discussions attracted over 60 students, made up of a majority of international students from the Philippines and other ASEAN countries.
After being welcomed by APU President Monte Cassim, former President Fidel V. Ramos talked about the importance of understanding and knowing the world and expressed his hopes for a future based on security in the Asia Pacific region, and consequently, his aspirations for world peace.
Former President Ramos was very passionate in his appeal to students that the most important factor in achieving this was knowledge. While introducing an article he wrote for a Philippine newspaper, the former President offered his theories on current international affairs.
Former President Ramos was bombarded with questions during the question and answer session, leading to a very enthusiastic exchange of views and opinions between the former President and students alike.
