The Ritsumeikan
Academy has a deep commitment to the continued peace and
prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region. This is evidenced
by the establishment of Ritsumeikan APU, and the many students
and faculty members from disaster-stricken nations who study
or conduct research at Ritsumeikan institutions. As an educational
and research institution, the Ritsumeikan Academy has launched
the above initiatives to help disaster-stricken regions overcome
this unprecedented calamity. |

In the nations ravaged
by the tsunami, elementary schools are not only institutions
offering compulsory education, but also serve as the locus
for communities. In response to requests from Indonesia and
Sri Lanka, which bore the brunt of the tsunami, fund-raising
drives are under way with the assistance of a wide range of
supporters including students and their families faculty, the
APU Student & Alumni Association and the APU-Club Domestic
Students' Parents Association. |

Training personnel
to rebuild sewerage systems, seismic warning systems and other
infrastructure required for rebuilding the disaster-stricken
areas is essential. Ritsumeikan Academy is utilizing its accumulated
resources by actively accepting trainees into accelerated programs
where they will obtain the skills necessary for the reconstruction
efforts. |

 |
Ritsumeikan Academy
will host international symposiums, which will be attended
by internationally-recognized researchers and government officials
specializing in the construction of disaster-prevention systems,
amongst other fields, to provide the people of affected areas
with piece of mind and underpin the safety of their nation
in the mid-to-long term. |
