On March 31, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University signed a comprehensive cooperative agreement with the Ministry of Medium & Small Scale Plantation Industries and Rural Human Resources Development of Sri Lanka.
The new agreement provides for cooperation in academic and cultural exchanges, including exchange of students between APU, Ritsumeikan University, and the Ministry. The Sri Lankan Ministry considers education and development of Sri Lanka's younger generations as its primary mission.
The signing ceremony was attended by Minister C. B. RATNAYAKE, Sri Lanka-born APU President Monte CASSIM, and NAGATA Toyo Omi, President of Ritsumeikan University. The Minister touched on the recent tsunami disaster in his speech, and went on to explain that students in his nation had long desired expanded opportunities to study in Japan. A presentation was given on the support provided for tsunami relief by APU students, and afterwards Sri Lankan students gave the Minister a guided tour of the campus.
The Minister participated in a dialogue with Sri Lankan students and discussed their studies at APU, life on campus and their extra curricular activities; and seemed genuinely interested in their activities.
