After the interviews, my honest opinion of the students was that they were all very conscientious, friendly and able to express their thoughts clearly and naturally.Through talking with the students it became clear that this wasn't just because they had advanced Japanese language skills, but also because they had experienced and learned many things by studying at APU, an environment that brings them into direct contact with not only Japanese culture and customs but also the values of numerous other cultures.
I was particularly impressed when during an interview a student said that they were very interested in the Japanese tea ceremony. When I asked why, the student responded that “the atmosphere when you enter the tea ceremony room is very quiet and tranquil, and yet everyone knows and understands each other”. This answer left me speechless and I wondered if even I, as a Japanese person, understood this part of Japanese culture as well as the student. After hearing stories about the APU students that were employed at the various Sumitomo Wiring Group offices this year, I realize that this understanding of Japan and the Japanese culture is evident in all these students. I hope these students make the most of their understanding of Japanese culture out in the workplace and while doing business at Japanese companies.
With the head office in Vietnam, Sumi-Hanel Wiring Systems, in its efforts to work towards global expansion, needs management-track people who can utilize their individuality in a range of environments.
