KEE Pookong is Professor of the Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies and College of Asia Pacific Studies at the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU). 

Prior to joining APU in late 2002, he was Director of the Chinese Heritage Centre in Singapore from 1999 to 2002, and Director and Professor of the Centre for Asia-Pacific Studies at the Victoria University, Australia from 1994 to 1999.  He was with the Senior Executive Service of the Australian Public Service from 1989 to 1994, serving as Assistant Director, Bureau of Immigration and Population Research (Assistant Secretary, Federal Department of Immigration and Ethnic Affairs). His earlier posts included: Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, University of Melbourne (1987-1989); Research Fellow then Senior Research Fellow, Australian Institute of Multicultural Affairs (1981-1987); and Research Fellow, East West Population Institute, East-West Center, Honolulu (1980-81).

He has a PhD degree in Psychology from the Australian National University, a First Class Honours BA degree in Psychology and a BA with triple majors in Economics, Politics and Psychology from the University of Adelaide.

His current research interests include international migration, international education, multicultural policies, Chinese Overseas studies, and Asian-Pacific affairs generally.

Born and raised in Malaysia, he is a naturalized Australian citizen.
