The Business Case Challenge rules below include everything that the participants need to know about the competition. Everyone is strongly encouraged to make themselves familiar with the rules before the competition starts.
The Business Case Challenge competition is based upon a honour code system; It is expected that all participants will use common sense in making this a fair competition. Please observe the rules following, otherwise the competition becomes meaningless. It will also ensure fairness. If you need clarification, please consult an official. Where any doubts or disputes arise the supervising judge's decision will be final.
| Each team consists of four undergraduate students. Teams prepare and present one case solution during the competition and it is the same case for all teams. The case itself is NOT to be discussed with the faculty advisor or anyone else other than one’s own team members (i.e. no use of emails, messenger or telephones to discuss the case) until after the final round of presentations. The case should only be discussed within the time and premises allowed for case preparation. Each team is allowed to bring an unlimited number of textbooks and reference material items. All materials (cases, printouts, USB keys, books and reference material items) must remain in the preparation room at all times during the competition, until powerpoints are submitted and then only removed with the authorisation of an official. Rooms used must be returned to a better state than found, ready for classes. The case writers may request to have all files and printouts handed over after the competition has ended. The teams can use any internet resources including the online resources accessible through the APU Library ( http://library.apu.ac.jp/menu). If in doubt, please ask an official. Each team will have a PC at their disposal in the assigned preparation breakout rooms. Use of the participants’ own computers is allowed but will not be supported. Presentations must be made in English using Microsoft PowerPoint on the computer provided by the Business Case Challenge competition. You may use notes and/or cue cards during your presentation. The BCC competition organizers will only offer limited assistance to the teams with computer related issues, and teams will not be given more time for case solving in the event of technical problems arising with any computers. There will be a preliminary round of division presentations, where all teams will present their findings and recommendations. From this round 4 teams will be selected for a public final round of presentations. In the preliminary round each presentation will consist of a 5 minute prepartion period in the presentation room, (the judges may or may not be present), then a 20 minute presentation immediately followed by a 10 minute Q&A session with questions on allowed from the judges. In the final round each presentation will follow the same format. Warnings for presentation time remaining for five minutes and one minute will be shown to the presenting team. The 4 finalists will present the same case solution again, using the same presentation used in the division presentation. The finalists are not allowed to view any finalist presentations preceding their own. The presentations are judged on quality of the analysis, presentation, question and answer, overall performance, relevance, originality and persuasiveness. The finalists’ performance in the first round will not count in the evaluation of the final round. All material used and prepared during the competition remains the property of Business Case Challenge competition. The case is strictly confidential and is to stay in the preparation rooms at all times. No case information is to be distributed by the participants.
The rules are subject to minor updates from time to time as the officials see fit.
