The Japanese Art Society held a Tanabata Concert on Friday, July 8th, 2011. Dressed in traditional summer jimbei and yukata, club members performed four Japanese songs on the koto and shamisen.

In the quiet Japanese-style Room, the gentle sounds of the koto mixed with the austere-sounding shamisen, drawing the audience into the wonderful world of Japanese instruments.
Japanese Art Society leader KATO Kiyohisa (APS3, Japan) commented on the performance: "We brought in some new members this year and have been practicing hard for the past three months. While it was only a short performance, I think the audience enjoyed the gentle tones of the Japanese instruments at our Tanabata Concert."
The Japanese Art Society current practices every Monday and Friday. If you are interested in instruments like the shamisen, koto, or shakuhachi, why don't you go talk to a club member today?
