On May 14 and 15, 2011, a mock United Nations general assembly meeting was held under the theme of “Golden UN Camp 2011” by the APU Model United Nations.
This project was held to raise students’ interest in international society through experiencing a UN-style meeting. This year participating students took on the role of representatives from various countries and engaged in mock discussions under the theme of “the 1994 Rwanda genocide”. Meeting and study group director, TAKASE Eri (APM3, Japan), commented on the project, “I hope that through this meeting 1st year students have learnt more about the challenges and difficulties of problem solving”. KUROSU Chisato (APM1, Japan) served as the American representative and reflected on her first experience of the programme, “This event raised my interest in the UN and taught me about the difficulties and enjoyment of discussing international issues with my fellow students”.
