On Friday, April 9, two APU students attended the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan (FCCJ) 2010 Swadesh DeRoy Scholarship Award Gala Dinner and Award Ceremony in Tokyo. Iqra Anugrah (APS 3, Indonesia) won a Distinguished Runner Up prize while HANS Nicholas (APS 4, Indonesia) won an Honorable Mention.
On Wednesday, April 28, 2010, The APU Symphony Orchestra and APU Wind Orchestra held welcome concerts for the new APU students.
On Sunday, March 28, 2010, the Second Ajimu Project Workshop was held at the Fukami Area Community Center in Usa City. Initiated by Vice Chancellor of Ritsumeikan Trust, Professor Monte CASSIM, the Ajimu Project aims to observe how climate change affects the grapes currently being grown, and the wine that is made from them, in Ajimu, a local community in Usa City. A sophisticated set of sensors have been set up to monitor micro-climatic information, soil changes and plant responses in the vineyards under this project on a real-time basis.
On Wednesday, April 21, 2010, an opening ceremony to mark the start of the Iwata Academy APU/Ritsumeikan Course APU Lecture 1 was held in Building H. Ritsumeikan University, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University and the Iwata Academy (Oita City) signed a university-high school liaison agreement in May 2007, which resulted in the establishment of the Iwata Academy APU/Ritsumeikan Course.
On Monday, March 29, 2010, English Junior Lecturer at the APU Center for Language Education, Simon P. BAHAU served as interpreter for his Prime Minster, Sir Michael SOMARE during the Japan-Papua New Guinea Prime Ministerial Talks.
On Friday, April 16, 2010, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) and three other universities concluded a partnership agreement at the RIHGA Royal Hotel, Tokyo. In partnership with Akita International University, International Christian University, and Waseda University, APU will now work towards providing world-class education and the nurturing of graduates with the skills to be active members of international society.
On Saturday, April 10, 2010, the "Pica Pica Welcome Festival" was held at APU and welcomed a large number of current and new students, their parents, and guests who gathered to enjoy a range of student initiatives and events before the start of the new semester.
From Monday 19 until Friday 23, April, 2010, the APU student event group "Heart for Haiti" is holding a charity relief event for those affected by the massive earthquake that struck Haiti earlier in January.
On Wednesday, April 7, 2010, a ceremony was held to welcome eight students onto the Global Business Leaders Development Program (GBLP*). The GBLP program aims to support exchange students and is backed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). These eight students constitute the 6th batch of APU students on the program.
On Saturday, April, 10, 2010, local media, economic, government and educational leaders came together for the "The 10th Anniversary APU Presidential Commemorative Dinner with Local Representatives" held at the Sugino Hotel, Beppu City, as an opportunity for APU and the local community to discuss their future together.
