Exchange/ Study Abroad Program(英語のみ)

Study APU for 1 semester or 1 year

Studying at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, or APU, for 1 semester or 1 year will allow you to learn from students and faculty at APU who come from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We encourage study abroad students to bring their own unique culture and ideas to share while learning and acquiring intercultural communication skills in and outside the classroom. It is a truly unique atmosphere that cannot be found anywhere else.
Outside the classroom and off campus, we encourage students to get involved in student clubs and interact with the local Japanese community to better enhance their understanding of Japanese language and culture.

Dual Language Education System

All undergraduate subjects are offered in both English and Japanese, allowing students who have no background in the Japanese language to study at APU without any problems. Students studying at APU for 1 semester or 1 year can choose to enroll as an English or Japanese basis student and take courses in the language of their choice.

Students testimonial

MOLIN Aleksander Kristian(Roskilde University)

I have always been fascinated by the Japanese culture and mentality and have always wanted to spend some time here. APU was recommended to me by a friend and I jumped at the opportunity. During my time here I’ve been learning more about the Japanese culture and society and also about the entire Asia Pacific region. Some of my favorite classes here focus on international relations and strategy and I really enjoy applying the theories to current events happening around the world. The teaching methods here are very different to what I am used to in Denmark but this is also one of the reasons I came. I haven’t settled on a future career yet but I’m thinking of joining the Danish police force when I graduate. With the increasing diversity of cultures living in Denmark, I’m sure that the experience of living in a multicultural environment and learning how do appreciate other cultures and values will serve me well in the future, whatever career path I take. Come to APU and experience something really different!

Olorato Charity SUMBOLU(University of Botswana)

I chose to come to Japan because I wanted to explore and experience a completely different culture. I knew very little about Japan back in Botswana but after finding out more about APU I discovered that it is a multicultural environment with people from all over the world. One of the skills I will need in the future as a social worker is the ability to understand different peoples’ individual situation and needs. So this experience has really helped me to become culturally competent and more flexible. My major back home is in social work so I am really interested in community develop and NGOs. During my time here I have really enjoyed my lectures on community development and NGO management and I look forward to learning more about Oita local community development initiatives. Ritsumeikan is the “place to establish your destiny” so I encourage anyone thinking of studying in Japan to come to APU and just be you!
