APPLICATIONS THROUGH RECOMMENDATIONS BY THE EMBASSY OF JAPAN FOR 2012 ENROLLMENT

The details of the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho:MEXT) Scholarships by recommendation from the Embassy of Japan for the academic year 2012 are as follows:

During the term of the scholarship, monthly allowances of approximately 154,000 yen will be given to postgraduate grantee (amount is subject to change). Application Fee, Admission Fee and Tuition Fees will be exempted. A round-trip airplane ticket between the grantee's home countries and Japan will be also provided.

Students who would like to pursue their studies at APU are strongly encouraged to apply for the MEXT Scholarship. Please contact the Japanese embassy in your country to begin the process.

Application periods and procedures vary from country to country. Please confirm details by contacting the relevant Japanese embassy.

a) Applicants must be under 35 years of age as of 1st April 2012 (i.e. born on or after 2nd April 1976)

b) Applicants must be a Bachelor Degree holder with 16 years of formal education. Undergraduates who are in the final year at their respective universities are eligible to apply.

Application forms can be collected from your nearest Embassy of Japan or in most cases printed out from your local Embassy of Japan Homepage.

*The timeframe given is only an example and can vary dramatically depending on policies of the embassy. Applicants should contact the Japanese embassy in their home country to confirm the schedule.

*Necessary documents to submit to APU are 1)copies of all documents submitted to the embassy, 2) Copy of the embassy's screening result 3)personal statement (instructions are in the APU Application Form), and 4)APU Application form pages 1-3. These documents must be submitted to APU by E-mail immediately when the applicant receives results from the embassy. (apugrad@apu.ac.jp)

*Please note that the necessary documents and timeframe for normal overseas applicants (not receiving MEXT scholarship) are different to the above. Please contact the APU Admissions Office for full details.

*For Applicants Who Have Passed the Initial Screening*
Applicants for the Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarships have to first pass an initial screening held at the Japanese embassy in their home country. Only applicants who pass this initial screening and receive documentation proving that they have passed will be able to move on to the next stage of the application process.

It is during the second stage of the MEXT Scholarship application process that you can contact us here at APU and request a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) to assist you in your application. The necessary documents to submit to obtain the letter are listed above.
