A Truly Multi-Cultural Academic Community

Students from almost 100 countries and regions throughout the world account for almost half the student body here at Ritsumeikan APU. Furthermore, approximately half the faculty members are from overseas. We have a unique environment where Students and faculty members come together as one on the APU campus, overcoming differences of race, religion and culture to both learn together and learn from each other.

APU has not only developed a new discipline of Asia Pacific Studies but has also established both undergraduate and graduate curricula to foster young leaders with the talent and ability to act on the global stage in the 21st Century.

With a Rich International Learning Environment

Taking advantage of its rich international environment, APU is building its own unique educational system, free from the restraints of conventional university education.

The University was established by the Ritsumeikan Trust in cooperation with Oita Prefecture and Beppu City, and aims to foster international exchange in the Asia Pacific region and to internationalize higher education. Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University is also intended to add a new dimension to Asia Pacific studies and foster a new generation of leaders who will help shape and support the future both global and local communities.

Location

The 41.6 hectare campus is built on a hillside of the Jumonjibaru area, overlooking downtown Beppu and Beppu Bay, which is connected to the Pacific. On a clear day, Shikoku is visible in the distance.

Oita was one of the sites for the 2002 World Cup Soccer Games while Beppu City is an internationally known hot-spring resort that is a favorite tourist destination.
